Dear all
Before it all becomes a hazy memory, here
is a resume of the AGM held in November. Apologies for the delay in getting this to you.
We had an excellent turn
out at the Queen Inn, thanks to everyone who turned up and for apologies from those who couldn't.
Results
last season went as follows:- played 22, won 9, lost 11, drew 1 and the RHCH CC mix-in goes down as n/a! 9 games were rained
off and 2 were cancelled. 33 fixtures in all, potentially our busiest season so far! Shame to lose more games than
we won and losing 9 games to the weather was very dissappointing.
Everyone seemed happy with the number and quality
of fixtures which I must admit does vary a lot. 5 Sunday and 1 Saturday game is planned for next season. No plans are
underway to drop any of the teams we played last season.
Net practice on Thursday evenings at the Rose Bowl is
well underway and proving to be popular as always. Sessions are held between 7-8 pm and everyone is welcome.
The
club remains in the black but nowhere near as secure as we were when we enjoyed sponsorship from the Squash Club. At present
the RHCH Golf Club shares the same account and makes no profit at all and is ocassionally reliant on the CC for financial
support. Subs are to remain at £3 for net sessions and £5 for matches (that breaks down to £1 towards
post match refreshments, £1 donation to the club's chosen charity and £3 to club funds). Can I please
reiterate that subs are payable after the game.....if you play you pay! We remain grateful to WEHCT for sposoring the
cricket balls over the last 10 years or so and have to hope that the new HHFT will equal their generosity.
At
the end of the last season Vel offered to sponsor the club shirts and consequently we have now sold our souls to www.sportsknees.co.uk. If you don't already have a club shirt and would like one, please let me know.
The Willow Tree ph has closed
now and I am negotiating with Clive Mansell at the Queen Inn for a similar arrangement that we enjoyed for so many years
with 'Jim at the Willow'.
The 2011 tour to Bristol was regarded as a success and plans are well underway
for 2012. More on that shortly.
I am delighted to pass onto you all that as a result of our post-match 'fine
wine raffles' we raised £421.45 for the Hants and IOW Air Ambulance! Really good news, well done to all of you who
have contributed by selling the tickets.
Some interest was expressed in joining the Winchester evening cricket
league and Vel offered to look into this further.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who
helped me organise the season; primarily Vel as Captain and the vice-Captains of which we had a few last year, Big Ian, Phil
and Big Dave all of whom did well. Thanks very much to Chris R who is responsible for steering www.RHCHcc.co.uk.
Awards: Best batting went to Chris Roseveare, bowling to Scott and the Chris Roseveare award went to Andy
Cable. Kevin McCabe won an award for having had the most mentions in the MOTM/MOTM runner-up category. Congratulations
to all of you.
Appointment of officers:- after a very successful spell Vel has resigned as Captain and Big Ian
was asked and agreed to step up to take on the responsibility in full having been vice-Captain for several seasons. Vel
will be vice-Captain. Phil and Big Dave have been asked to step in whenever Big Ian or Vel are unavailable. Should none of
the aforementioned be available then I will nominate someone from the squad available. Amazingly enough, once again no-one
put their name forward for treasurer/secretary/fixtures.
That's about it. As I mentioned, net sessions are
going well, only 13 more to go, the tour taking shape, 19 fixtures booked for 2012 already and by my reckoning just 91 days
before our first match!
See you soon
